American High School Diploma

The American Diploma is issued by IST and recognised for entrance into American and international universities, thanks to the school’s accreditation by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) and CIS (Council of International Schools).

Program structure

  • Students must complete a minimum of 27 credits, accumulated through coursework in various disciplines.
  • Completion of the DP Core (TOK, EE, CAS) is not required.

Assessment and Certification

  • The diploma is awarded based on credits accumulated during the four years of high school and course evaluations.
  • Students who earn the IB Diploma also meet the requirements for the American High School Diploma.

High School Diploma + Advanced Placements

The High School Diploma issued by IST can be integrated with Advanced Placement certifications (AP) issued by the College Board, thus allowing access to both American and European universities.

Program structure

The minimum credits required are the same as the High School Diploma (27).
Students take three IB Diploma courses at Standard Level and combine them with three specific AP courses chosen from:

  • AP Statistics
  • AP Spanish Language Acquisition
  • AP Geography
  • AP Microeconomics

Assessment and certification

  • Students can earn both the High School Diploma and the IB Diploma if they meet the requirements for both programs. The diploma is awarded based on accumulated credits and course evaluations
  • Advanced Placement credits are awarded upon successful completion of the relevant exams and are validated by the College Board.
