The Whole School SEN Teacher applies a four-part graduated approach — assessment, identification & placement, implementation and review — within the Primary and/or Secondary division, as needed. In collaboration with the SEN Coordinator and the Student Support Team (SST), the SEN Teacher contributes to assessing student needs through observations, discussions, and analysis of internal and external assessment data, including standardized measures (e.g., ISA, CAT4, WISC, WIAT). Based on these assessments, the SEN Teacher delivers targeted provision which may include direct intervention and/or integrated classroom support.
The SEN Teacher works closely with the SEN Coordinator, students, their families, and teachers to design and implement Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs) or Student Success Plans (SSPs). The SEN teacher regularly consults and collaborates with subject teachers to deliver the inclusive strategies outlined in the ILP within Primary and Secondary classrooms. Depending on student needs and scheduling, the SEN Teacher may also deliver support within a separate learning environment and/or through a reasonably adjusted curriculum to promote independence and academic success at IST.
The SEN Teacher may also support Primary or Secondary students identified as English Language Learners (ELL), or Gifted and Talented (G&T) who would benefit from individualized programming, providing opportunities to explore, challenge and further their academic development in collaboration with the SEN Coordinator and subject teachers.
The SEN Teacher maintains accurate reporting of their students’ progress and contributes to provision mapping and review processes within the Primary and Secondary division, ensuring alignment with the broader IST Inclusion Policy and compliance with GDPR regulations.
