UNESCO Club

The International School of Turin (IST) is proud to be a UNESCO member school since 2016, a recognition reflecting its commitment towards environmental and sustainability education. Within this framework, we created the UNESCO Club, a group of students passionate about sciences and the environment working to understand and address global ecological challenges.

A club dedicated to research
and environmental awareness

UNESCO Club is made up of 15-20 students meeting every Monday morning to analyse, discuss and propose scientific solutions to environmental issues. The approach adopted is based on a scientific method aiming at developing critical thought and proposing concrete strategies for a sustainable future.

Every year, the club members have the opportunity to participate in the Young Scientists Meeting at Sabtarem, in Portugal, an international event gathering students from all over the world to share ideas and innovative solutions on environmental issues. This experience allows students to engage with peers and professionals, broadening their perspectives and strengthening their commitment to sustainability.

A sustainable
Campus

IST not only promotes scientific reflection about environmental issues but also concretely acts to create a more sustainable campus.

The school has received the official recognition as “Eco-School” by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), integrating permaculture principles, biodiversity and ecological practices in school daily life.

This program engages all students in hands-on and theoretical activities on sustainability informing them about the importance of adopting a responsible and respectful behaviour toward the environment. The aim is not just to improve life within the campus but also to spread these practices to local and international communities collaborating with UNESCO and other global institutions.

More than a club

Taking part in the UNESCO Club means participating in a movement beyond school. The students learn to translate ideas into concrete actions, facing environmental challenges with a scientific and collaborative mindset. The club also gives them the opportunity to express creativity, hone critical thought and communicate effectively: key skills for tomorrow’s world.

The International School of Turin once again demonstrates its commitment to shape aware and responsible citizens ready to actively contribute to building a sustainable future.
