IST Middle School

At the International School of Turin (IST), the typical Middle School (age 11 to 13) day is designed to support students as they sharpen their learning, develop autonomy and build a self-aware identity. Each day is an opportunity to deepen knowledge, face new challenges and acquire useful tools for the future.

IB curriculum fosters interdisciplinary learning, integrating theory and practice. The classes stimulate cooperation, reflection and critical thinking, encouraging students to develop independent and active participation.

Active since 2008, IB Middle Years program runs from Grades 6 to 8 (corresponding to Italian grades according to the school equivalency table). It represents an alternative to private middle school in Turin, offering a curriculum that values each student and supports individual academic and personal growth.

Equity
and Development

Up to Grade 8,students attend all subjects in the curriculum. In the MYP, technology is integrated into learning for a responsible use of digital devices. The school provides the necessary iPads. Each classroom is equipped with an Apple TV or interactive monitor. The use of a variety of digital tools fosters the development of a responsible use of new technologies.

Secondary Latin

Among the co-curricular opportunities provided at secondary school, IST also offers secondary Latin, a path dedicated to students who wish to explore the Classics through the study of the Latin language, developing analytical skills and a greater awareness of linguistics.

Italian Program

The Italian Program in Middle Years is designed to specifically address the linguistic and cultural needs of every student, regardless of their native language or background. Since IST is located in Italy, we believe it is essential that every student acquire Italian language skills, consistent with the international and inclusive approach of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
The teaching of the Italian language is a dynamic component and is integrated into the curriculum. The program fosters the development of communicative abilities, critical thinking and cultural understanding, enhancing both the linguistic and analytical aspect of the language.
In Middle School (grades 6-8), students can follow two paths:

  • MYP Italian Language & Literature (for italian native students)
  • MYP Italian Language Acquisition (for non native students)

Middle School exam and the final tests

Students can prepare for the Licenza Media Italiana, which takes place at the end of Grade 8, thanks to the Italian curriculum integration with the MYP program. This approach ensures a thorough and international preparation, though maintaining compliance with local standards.

Afternoon activities

For students aged 11 to 15, afternoon activities represent an opportunity to develop talents, interests and skills in a dynamic and creative environment. The programs take place at the campus from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. and includes sport, artistic, technological and social activities.

Secondary Clubs

MYP students can take part in secondary clubs: afternoon activities included in the tuition fee that enrich their education. These clubs offer stimulating experiences in different areas, allowing the development of passions, skills, and a strong sense of belonging to the school community. Available options include:
